The Art Of Getting Started

It is so sticky-hot in Melbourne right now that I'm wearing a bag of frozen peas as a tiny shawl because my bedroom is a hot box and - get this! - all the fans in the city have sold out. Madness. TOTAL MADNESS. CHAOS. SWEATY CHAOS! SALTY MADNESS! My thighs are much too slippery to be writing blog posts in this sans-fan bedroom but whatever, I have an interview with my sweet and clever pal Lee Crutchley to share with you today. His new book The Art Of Getting Started is more desirable than a onesie made of ice packs. Did she really just say that? Totally. Admittedly it doesn't lower your body temperature but it does offer playful ways to get unstuck and loosen up your creativity. See? Now must go find more frozen vegetables to fashion into a chilled bonnet. Enjoy the interview!

Woaaaah babe

Today's scribbler is Famous When Dead and honestly? I'm not sure what to write for this one. Not because I don't like it because GOSH DAMN I DO... but my eyeballs are tripping out! If my eyeballs had little hands (stick with me here) then those eyeball-hands would be touching my brain all over the face in a very distracting way right now. Like, WOAAAH BABE LOOK AT THAT. You know what I'm saying? Sure you do. And now (if you don't mind) one of MY eyeball-hands is grabbing one of YOUR eyeball-hands so they can skip off into the sunset together. Bye guys! Have fun! Be home before dinner! Mama loves you!

Burp.

Today's scribbler is Maggi Li and her pooey brain! Haha! I reckon if this blog was Lady Gaga in her many festive skins than today would be her "day off" where she doesn't wear a lick of makeup and just hangs out in bed with her dogs, farting and eating lots of cereal. Today we keep it simple! Today we rock bed-hair, with a happy little smile on our mouth! Today we eat three bowlfuls of pasta and cheese because it's the best thing ever! Two ingredients. Done. In my face. Yum. Simple. Good. Thanks. Burrrrp.

PS - When Maggie isn't burping she's art director of the amazing kids magazine OKIDO. And I heard that if you follow her on twitter she will randomly drop £2 on the ground somewhere in London and if you find it, it's all yours babe.

THIS SIDE UP ⬆

Today's scribbler is lovely mina-milk! I know, I know... the word "lovely" is a bit overused for describing lady-illustrators. But I think in this scenario it's really true! It's a simple matter of deduction (yes I did just watch six episodes of Elementary in a row). I mean, how non-lovely could an illustrator who draws sweet sleeping kittens really be? And oh! Look! Up there. Yes: a sleeping kitten drawn with pink pen. What kind of non-lovely person owns a pink pen? Exactly. mina-milk is lovely! CASE CLOSED, bye!

PS - If you're into animals and you're into pretty drawings than you're going to have a fun time on mina-milk's blog. That's a promise. A promise with eye-contact and a firm handshake so you know I mean it.

54kg

Today's scribbler is Eva Szentgyorgyi from London!

Tube Socks Please!

Woah it feels like aaaages since I've gone tappy-tap on this blog! Actually only seven days! But this new once-weekly routine is already a nice treat. Right now I'm downing a pint of cider and going "eeiny meeny miney moe" to pick this week's scribbler..... and I've landed on this pretty lady Stella Pereira! Do you see that flower face she drew in the sidebar? It looks like a cute fumbly toddler with blonde ponytails who's about to burst into tears because she threw my USB into the toilet to see if it'd float and it didn't. Oh small person with leafy branches for a chin, I cannot be mad at you! You is too cute! Maybe the buzz of cider in my veins is helping too, keeping me chill about the lost USB and all those saved images of dogs in vests that I'll never get back. Either way: no small children are crying and we all get a face-full of Stella's flowers! Good!

Toe Thumbs

Hey! I spy another elephant! This week is ALLLLL about our floppy-earred chums. As it should be! Elephants are the best. Did you know that a mama elephant is pregnant for over 1.5 years (YEARS) before she gives birth to her bub? Crazy. Did you know that some newborn elephants suck their trunk for comfort like a baby human sucks their thumb? Ahhh the thought of that kills me. I melt into an emotional puddle. Here's another one: did you know that today's scribbler is Eliot Wyatt? Yes sir. Shove those tidbits into your knapsack of random trivia because these are the FACTS dude! Then go visit Eliot and tell him the thing about the cute baby elephants. He'll love that, maybe!

The Internet Is For Cats

Today's scribbler is Anita Goldstein and how rad is this scribble sheet she did for us! I'm not even sure what to say about it. It's like being in high-school and getting all coy when the cute-cool chick said hello to me. My instinct was to shout at her "HEY I REALLY LIKE YOUR EFFORTLESS COOL" but that didn't feel like an appropriate thing to do. So instead I shushed my face and mumbled something about cats on the internet until she eventually walked away. BYE THEN! Luckily it seems Anit would dig my mumbly cat comments and probably share a few of her own. So anyhow, now I'm going to pat you on the bum for good luck and send you two places today: first here, then here. Enjoy!

Scalliwaggin!

Today's scribbler is Stephanie Tillman and I'm pretty sure she's the first embroiderer we've had on the blog! She's also the first scribbler to draw for us (above) two wolves pashing on. I'm VERY sure of that. Now trying my hardest not to segue into a gross story about my first kiss with a ginger-hair boy who came at me like a motorboat and very nearly swallowed me whole. We probably looked exactly like those wolves. Except more drool and less fur! Actually I'm surprised I haven't already mentioned my first kiss on this blog because I think about it ALWAYS... and thus can no longer eat juicy mangoes. Anyway! BLEH. Let's shake off that unsexy memory and go visit Steph's etsy shop!

Coffee And Cowboys

Hey, welcome to Monday! Today's scribbler is Dick Vincent and I really like his sidebar (above) with that small inky moon and the "PM" lettering. How is it possible that after 500+ scribblers on this blog, you can still surprise me? You guys are ridiculous. Also! Today is an example of perfect timing because this week I've been asking my Magic8 Ball (who is now being an indecisive GRUMPY BUM) whether I should adopt a canine-friend, then today I find this drawing by Dick (below) titled "I want a dog" and I thought "Oh, me too!" and that didn't leave me with any answers but it did give my Magic8 Ball a small rest and he probably needed that. So thank you Mr Vincent.

Eat Less Olives

Today's scribbler is Faye Moorhouse and I like her drawings... VERY! MUCH! I just spent an entire afternoon eating grapes and turning pages on her Tumblr. I especially like the gangly people she draws, soft and naked and funny. If only I'd seen Faye's sex drawings pre-puberty! Those few sketchy lines and inky bodies explain to me the giggly, awkward, sweetness of lovemaking in a much less terrifying way than that "This Is How Babies Are Made" powerpoint presentation Mrs Shultz made us watch in grade five. Although you did get the basics across Mrs Shultz so thank you for that.

Lush Garden

Today's scribbler is Eleanor Taylor. As you can see from the lush scribble garden she drew us (above), this lady got skillzzz! Or alternatively, she has skills. Either way I can barely pick a favourite illustration, so I recommend you visit Eleanor's website to see them all. And when I say "recommend" I mean it in the same way that an unshaven character played by Bruce Willis might "recommend" you keep your stinkin' hands away from his precious daughter before a series of events (and glorious one-liners) make him admit (reluctantly) that you're actually a good kid, or whatever.

FOOOOD FIGHHHHHT

Are you forever daydreaming about a beef burger so tall and greasy that you'd need to unhinge your jaw just to take a bite? Well... look below, it's on the menu! Today's scribbler is Lewis Stringer. He's a London-based illustrator who's found a muse in the humble hamburger, as well as pineapple and meat trays and other edible goods. So let's metaphorically loosen that top button of our jeans and dig in. I mean, dig in with our eyeballs rather than our face hole. Take care of those arteries. Bon appetit!

Enjoy The Trip!

Call me crazy, but yesterday's psychedelic scribbles left my eyeballs sweaty (ew) and hungry for more. SWEET RELIEF, today's scribbler is Ellie Rassia! The party continues! Actually, more so than a night rave in the forest, Ellie's scribbles (above) remind of childhood daydreams. Where everything is shiny and bright and the cereal packet dances with the Vegemite jar at breakfast time. Tomorrow I promise to give your/my eyeballs a proper wind-down, but for now... let's just enjoy the trip!

Comin' To Town!

Today's scribbler is the jollyfatman himself, Father Christmas. Right on! Actually this is the handiwork of Lisa D. Remember last Halloween when she threw cobwebs and loose eyeballs all over the blog? Well today she taps into her inner-Santyclaus.

Lisa's a bit of a veteran here at The Scribble Project (see?) but she's never had a proper intro so... scribblers, meet Lisa D from Gloucestershire! She's a mum of three who also moonlights in a covers band, and she fancies Stephen King novels, Instagram, miso soup and Led Zeppelin. Okay this is beginning to sound like a dating profile.

Now let's go wander off into a festive food-coma! Happy Holidays everyone.

Exploding Melon Heads!

Today's scribbler is Murray Somerville, a friendly illustrator from London whose imagination it would be fun to swim around in. He seems to have an endless mixed-bag of weird creatures lurking in his pencil case, like "conjoined twins who play battleships and exploding melon heads". All that good stuff! I only mention him as "friendly" because he seemed that way via a few quick emails... and if science ever makes it so, let's hope he's friendly enough to let us jump in his ears and explode some melon heads together. Ka boom!

Acid and Disco

Today's scribbler is Cristina Polop from London. Last week I rolled out of bed, rubbed the morning dew out of my eyes and found this scribbly disco-party in my inbox. It was like a splash of water on my eyeballs! In a good way.

It's Dope!

Today's scribbler is Liam Clark from Norfolk. I don't know him personally, but he makes me laugh with his scribbly comics. And his DIY attitude makes me think he'd be good at fixing things in unusual ways. If he applied to join my share-house I'd say yes! Seems like a fun guy to have around. And he just finished art school, so let's see what he does next.
