Sketch Interview with Alyssa!

So I was poking around on Alyssa Mees's tumblr the other day, thinking "SKILLZ" and then I was curious to see what her start-of-the-day routine looks like. So I emailed her to ask that question (plus a few more) and she was sweet and sent over a cute series of hand-drawn answers, such as the morning haze pictured above. Then I shared those answers on our Instagram. And that, kids, is how an interview is born! Any questions?

Today's scribbler izzzzzzz.... *self-indulgent bongo solo on a stranger's beer belly* Mason McFee aka- Maseman! He said he's "not the best at following instructions" and went a bit wacky on the scribble sheet. But I like that. Very much! His scribbles actually gave me a big ol' stink-face when they arrived on my email doorstep. You know that weird contorted mouth-spasm that happens when something is very cool to you? Do you get that? If something is REALLY MY CUPPA TEA it makes my brow go into the foetal position and my lips start doing awkward gymnastics. Okay whatever image you have of me in your head right now, I bet it's a good one! I'd rather you keep it but if you absolutely need to shake it off that's okay too: [SHAKEY SHAKE!]

Ooooooozy.

Today's scribbler is Erik Mark Sandberg! WOOOAHH. This is exactly how my brain feels when I go on a tv series binge and keep saying "one more episode" until before I know it three days and one glorious spin-finish have washed over me and I drag myself into the shower half-believing myself to be DEEP INSIDE the tv show. Then my mushy brain starts clicking back into reality while I shampoo my hair. But for those few dark-lit days in my bedroom by the glow of the laptop screen my brain is a wonderland of bad guys, good guys, twisty-turns and scripted sexual tension and it is LIVING, dammit! Point is: this scribble really trips my brain out. Did we expect anything less from Erik? Naaaah!

Draw Things

Today's scribbler is Rachal Duggan and I really-extremely like this chick! She makes me giggle. She also makes me go "HAHA CUTEEE!" and that is a good mix of things to be able to make a person do. If you're brand new to this blog (Welcome. Sit please. We've been waiting for you) then you might like to know that THIS is the scribble interview Rachal started with. She did a pretty great job with it huh? I especially like the studded dog collar and the six pack. A+ if I may say so! And I guess I may because AIN'T NOBODY ELSE HERE TO STOP ME. So much power! Hey, Kids!

It seems we're continuing our theme of cats this week (YES) because today's scribbler is Jeffrey Brown! I don't mean that Jeff is a cat. Although that would be GREAT! Ohh an adorable cartoonist kitten with shockingly dexterous paws, grumpily licking ink off his fur. Imagine! Well this paragraph took a delightful climax early on, not sure where I can go from here. Half of that above sentence is true though! Jeff is a cartoonist and he does have very dexterous hands (not paws) and he may for all I know have the kind of furry chest that ink could be spilled upon. I DON'T KNOW. Anyway, the reason I mention cats is that Jeff authored a book called Cat Getting Out Of a Bag. It's very good!

Today's scribbler is Sashiko Yuen, aka Wishcandy! I'm very glad to have found this lady. She is (as far as my Monday morning memory will stretch) the first scribbler to draw us bloody knives AND pretty rainbows (above) which is a combo that maybe sums her up better than any snappy intro would. No actually, throw those bloody knives and pretty rainbows into a kitschy backpack slung over the shoulder of a retro babe with a potty mouth who likes to tell fart jokes. There! That sums her up! Today's scribbler is Kelly Rae Burns. See that human-fox-baby (above) snuggled up with her mum? Is that not the sweetest thing you've seen all day? To answer my own question like a jolly weirdo on the train would: Yes! Yes it is. And that's saying something because half-hour ago my eyeballs saw THIS cute thing. It's barely 9am and I've already said URRR I JUST WANT TO EAT YOU ALL UP!! twice today, that's a promising start!

Pretty Much Always

Today's scribbler is Jessica Dalva and (I think) she's our first sculptor on the blog. This is good news! It would be even BETTER NEWS if my Mum called right now to say that Wayne Szalinski is my new step-dad. Then I could sneak into his science lab and shrink myself down to the size of a hummingbird and FINALLY be able to cuddle and take naps with this sweet baby deer (below) sculpted by Jessica! It's so not fair that miniature girls have all the fun! GOSH MUM, date a kooky scientist for once in your life!

Today's scribbler is Lettie Jane Rennekamp. How great is that name! Lettie Jane. I can't help but say it in a deep and melodic voiceover-voice. AND THE WINNER IS... LETTIE JANE! I reckon she must win lots of things, all the time, like local raffles and the annual Guess How Many Jellybeans competition. That's my assumption! I haven't done any actual "research" on Lettie and her impressive lucky streak, but on this blog I seem to be less of a journalist and more of a late-night TV psychic. ALSO! My brain feels weird and distracted and non-able to talk straight after looking (below) at Lettie's hand-painted kaleidoscope. Weird-good though! WEEEIRDDD-GOOOOOOD!

Hey! Today's scribbler is Jordan Kay, an illustraty/designy-lady based in Washington. Yes using lazy made-up words like "illustraty" is one perk of running a blog solo and not having any stinky editors to answer to! HAR HAR HAR. Really though, staring into Jordan's scribbles (above) is like having a sip of that "psychedelic coffee" she drew for us. A gentle, spacey, online trip. Cheers for the taste, Jordan!

Every Little Win

Today's scribbler is Emma Trithart from Minnesota. Those pretty flowers (above) are like a makeover montage for my eyeballs! It's past midnight and I'm half-awake because my tummy is grumbling with a dinner overload, but somehow Emma's scribbles make me feel all sweet inside. Even though I'm wearing a smelly t-shirt with a beer stain down the front. Still feel cute! My body is grumpy, but my eyeballs are skipping in a forest and falling in love and holding a tiny newborn baby, all at once. Ohh, the magic of sleep deprivation mixed with sweet pencil drawings!

Today's scribbler is Danielle Kroll, an illustrator and designer from Philadelphia. She's neat and bright, with a bent for the handmade. I found her via Book By Its Cover and her sketchbooks are so damn pretty! She has a familiar style, but she seems to experiment and play a lot. She's like a semi-surprise party. I like that.

Jazzy Bits!

Today's scribbler is Michael Perez, a self-taught comic artist from Minnesota. I found him in the happy land of Cargo and fancied his sketchbooks for the mix of ink and pencils. Notice the mint/red colour scheme he used for his scribble sheet too! Did you know surgeons wear mint-coloured scrubs because it's least startling to the eye when mixed with red, the colour of blood? Hmmm! There you go. Colour theory is cool.
