Love Thyself
What the heck! So you're telling me 2013 is nearly, almost, just-about over? I don't mean to scoff but you might be getting a litttttle ahead of yourself, fat bearded man in a santa suit. It's only like, August? October? Wait. December? December 23rd?! Oh my gosh you're right, 2013 is almost dunzo. That means 2014 is starting to poke its newborn head out of the birth canal of time! It also means this is the last post of 2013, featuring these lovely scribble diary pages by artist Marissa Rossi. Highlights (for me) include: love thyself, make a "couch-bowl" (COOL) and initiate lots of "up top" high-five action. Solid life tips, right there. See ya'll in the new year!
The Volcano Goes Pop
Today's blog post is interactive (for maximum enjoyment) so please equip yourself with a cold can of fizzy drink. Like, right now... (pause)... Got one? Cool. Now I want you to pick up the can and give it a shake. Shakey-shake-shake! That's the way. Feels good, right?? Loose yourself in the reckless sloshing of combustible liquid! Now I want you to open the can. Wait: maybe go outside first. Okay, now open the can. Enjoy the thrill as your trembling fingers grip the pull tab. Then... pop! Fizzy brown lava EXPLODES from the aluminium volcano! Fizzzzzzzzzzz! Fizzzz! Fizz. Okay, now please giggle your face off because this is a totally silly thing to have done and you are now covered in sticky liquid-sugar. Haha. What a mess. Who's going to clean this up? I guess you are. Gosh, life is so messy and ridiculous. Sometimes all we can do is giggle like maniacs and enjoy the small sweetnesses - like licking exploded soda off our wrists.
Thank you Tina Siuda for inspiring out first interactive blog post! Also thank you for giving us this bearded man hiding in a psychedelic cabbage patch - see below ;)
Woaaaah babe
Today's scribbler is Famous When Dead and honestly? I'm not sure what to write for this one. Not because I don't like it because GOSH DAMN I DO... but my eyeballs are tripping out! If my eyeballs had little hands (stick with me here) then those eyeball-hands would be touching my brain all over the face in a very distracting way right now. Like, WOAAAH BABE LOOK AT THAT. You know what I'm saying? Sure you do. And now (if you don't mind) one of MY eyeball-hands is grabbing one of YOUR eyeball-hands so they can skip off into the sunset together. Bye guys! Have fun! Be home before dinner! Mama loves you!
Not Amusing At All
Well well well... what do we have here? Is it today's scribbler? I think it might be. And her name is Paulette Jo! Did you notice those fungi lungs? See this is why I didn't eat mushrooms as a kid. Give those suckers a damp place to hang-out (aka, my internal organs) and they're bound to get comfy and never leave and have mushroom-babies all over my insides. Ew! But Paulette makes it look so pretty, I almost wouldn't mind a little fungi garden in my lungs. The air would be fresh and tasty, right? See how well I paid attention in Health class? I KNOW THINGS ABOUT MY INSIDES. Not really. I know nothing. Except this: Paulette's instagram is totally magical and pencily-good. Follow her!
Bike Ride!
Today's scribbler is Michelle Lasalvia with (what I hope is) a folding bicycle! It kills me with sweetness to see a full-grown person balancing on such little wheels. We can only hope that Michelle doodled these pretty lines while balancing her tush on that tiny foldable bicycle seat. While speeding down a steep hill. With fluro streamers on her handlebars. One eye on the road, one eye on the paper! One hand to hold the pencil, one hand to hold the handlebars! Michelle the doodling daredevil. You saw it here first!
May Is In My Lungs
Hello sweet-cakes! Give me a cuddle you beauitful creature! Hey, wait. Why are you backing away slowly? That smile of yours is getting a bit wobbly. Are you worried that I'll bounce in for a bear-hug then linger too long around your neck-area until you feel that egg taco I ate for breakfast tickle your earlobe? Yes that'd be creepy. But that won't happen because this is the hugless internet. Hurrah! Anyway I'm just in a sweet mood because 1) there's a tiny baby giggling at me from over her mama's shoulder (aww bubs, you're killing me), and 2) today's scribbler is ojoMAGico!
PS - Follow ojoMAGico on facebook because why not? Her work is beautiful and who doesn't want more beauty in their life? Exactly. ORRR stay here for a nice warm eggy-smelling cuddle! Your call, man.
Tube Socks Please!
Woah it feels like aaaages since I've gone tappy-tap on this blog! Actually only seven days! But this new once-weekly routine is already a nice treat. Right now I'm downing a pint of cider and going "eeiny meeny miney moe" to pick this week's scribbler..... and I've landed on this pretty lady Stella Pereira! Do you see that flower face she drew in the sidebar? It looks like a cute fumbly toddler with blonde ponytails who's about to burst into tears because she threw my USB into the toilet to see if it'd float and it didn't. Oh small person with leafy branches for a chin, I cannot be mad at you! You is too cute! Maybe the buzz of cider in my veins is helping too, keeping me chill about the lost USB and all those saved images of dogs in vests that I'll never get back. Either way: no small children are crying and we all get a face-full of Stella's flowers! Good!
LOOZY GOOZY
What the what! Today's scribbler is Erik Winkowski and isn't funny how "obvious" this scribble seems now that he's done it? Like oh yeah, OF COURSE those shapes are meant to be a squishy father reading the morning newspaper! And those "lungs" are obviously a long-limbed mum preparing herself for the day ahead... what else could they be? I love this so much. Erik is probably scribbler #200 (or whatever) to attack this scribble sheet and STILL he surprises us and serves up something so unique. People are awesome! Erik, you... everyone! Good vibes all'round today. To be continued....
Pack Your Bags And Go!
Today's scribbler is Eda Janko. I particularly like that elephant mug she drew! See it? With the slice of peanut butter toast? After noticing those two small details I went on an exhausting half-hour internet hunt to find out (once and for all) "do elephants even like peanuts?" and the answer is: No. I think! But then ZooKeeper336 reckons that HIS elephants like peanuts, so much so he hides their medicine tablets in Snickers bars. So hmm? Mr Internet has once again rolled me up in a confusing mess of contradicting facts and cartoon myths. But then he gifted me with this gif so all was forgiven!
Ooooooozy.
Today's scribbler is Erik Mark Sandberg! WOOOAHH. This is exactly how my brain feels when I go on a tv series binge and keep saying "one more episode" until before I know it three days and one glorious spin-finish have washed over me and I drag myself into the shower half-believing myself to be DEEP INSIDE the tv show. Then my mushy brain starts clicking back into reality while I shampoo my hair. But for those few dark-lit days in my bedroom by the glow of the laptop screen my brain is a wonderland of bad guys, good guys, twisty-turns and scripted sexual tension and it is LIVING, dammit! Point is: this scribble really trips my brain out. Did we expect anything less from Erik? Naaaah!
I Will Scream YES
Today's scribbler is Carla Uriarte and we get a BONUS ROUND of *three* diary pages from her today because she "found it addicting" and just kept on scribbling. GOOD STUFF. For real though: I am a bit in love with that cat-human she drew (above) looking all sassy and satisfied with life, his floppy jazz-paws at the ready. Oh I really WISH there were a sassy cat-human sitting on the other side of this kitchen table right now in a soft pink sweater. There'd be a mellow saxophone tune playing in the background and we'd both sway gently while I typey-type and she purry-purrs. DREAM ON DREAMER! Anyway jazz-paws or not, we're all friends here. So if you'd like to keep snooping in Carla's diary (she don't mind) you can't dig in on her tumblr and below!
+++ Magic Powers +++
Today's scribbler is Yanrong, a fellow Melbourne chick! Isn't it funny how we get all chummy when we find out that someone shares our hometown? Once we realise we're wearing the same metaphorical team jerseys then BAM, we're bonded. But maybe I have bumped into Yanrong at some point? Maybe we've done the awkward footpath dance when she was going left and I was trying to go right and "whoops you go" and "no sorry you go" etc! Maybe! Anyway: road trips, campfires, magic powers and ocean-life in her lungs? She sounds like a fun friend to have around. Next time I'm in the city and notice someone with ink under her nails and seawater bubbles popping out her nostrils I'll be sure to say helloooo!
420
Today's scribbler is Dominic De Venuta and this is (I think) the first scribble sheet I've ever posted where the date is actually today! 4.20! This excites me. It's like watching a sporting match in REAL TIME. No actually I don't watch sport. Okay it's like having a sneaky live-feed set up in Dominic's house, watching him go about his day AS IT HAPPENS. Nah I don't do that either.... promise. Anyway if I did organise a live-feed in Dominic's place today I can guess what he'd be doing: celebrating today's unofficial holiday. And probably eating lots of snacks. FOLLOW THE SMOKE RINGS: @kungfutoast
Free Killer Whales!
Today's scribbler is Susana Lopez and this scribble sheet is a good time, am I right? I'm looking at it and thinking THIS IS A GOOD TIME! And you know I really mean that because I said it in capitals. I like the way Susana draws! It reminds me of youth (not that I need reminding, I'm still pretty youthful okaaay) and "after school hangs" and finding good library books to read then doodling in their margins just a bit. I'm not sure why it reminds me of these things but I enjoy the reminding anyhow! Okay, now you can go bury your face in this delicious bowlful of doodles. SEE YAH!
In Outer Space
Enough talking about cats this week, let's talk about something else! Today's scribbler is Haley Stark and I reckon she wants us to talk about outer space. Cats in outer space? STOP IT. No cats! Just planets and stars and the milky way. No cats in outer space. Only monkeys. Aww monkeys in spaceships with tiny space helmets and no pants on! Good visual. And Bruce Willis pushing Ben Affleck back into the spaceship so he doesn't have to miss a thing with Liv Tyler! THIS is the unofficial soundtrack to today's scribble! Oh what a messy paragraph. I blame it on the "space crazies". That's a thing, right? Haley?
The Sweet Unknown
Today's scribbler is Judit Orosz and her scribble sheet reminds me of the sweet unknown! Like diving off the pier without dipping your toe in the water first. That wild mix of jitters and the fun you might have any moment now. Know what I mean? The sweet unknown is my favourite thing in the world ever! Aside from maybe love. Although love mostly is the sweet unknown I suppose. Hmmmm yeah I'm really getting lost in my thoughts and lost in this scribble! Thank you for the trip Judit.
Date Night
Today's scribbler is Bella Harris and wow I am glad to be writing this in a sunshiney cafe and not home alone at midnight while the candles flicker and the record player begins to sk-sk-skip. This scribble sheet is so beautiful! But I scare easily like a newborn bunny and those lady-eyes (above) are a confusing mix of REALLY pretty and REALLY bloodshot. I might just sneak away quietly while I can! Just kidding. I never back down from a staring game. Bring it on, pretty-bloodshot lady!
Permanent Groupie
Today's scribbler is Jem Magbanua and gosh am I happy about it. I don't normally say the word "gosh" except maybe a few times when Napoleon Dynamite was a thing. But I will say it now! Loudly! Aloud! Because for once I am home alone writing a post rather than at a busy cafe so why not make a song and dance about it? GOSH. The point is: this scribble sheet (above) by Jem is a lovely thing and I hope I haven't ruined it with my shouty watered-down curse words. So anyway: GOOD TIMES AHEAD IF YOU CLICK HERE! (this is not a funny trick, it's a link to more of Jem's pretty drawings. I swear!)
Twenty-Something
Today's scribbler was actually due to be featured next week but she shimmied her way to the front of the blog queue due to her scribbly good looks! WERK IT GURL. I really could not let these pretty scribbles (above) by Marie Gardeski wait in line. I swooned and got weak! I let her cut in! Don't let my Beyonce references and independent woman eyes fool you, folks. At heart I am a pimply young delivery boy who goes mushy and erratic and stares for too long when someone (or someTHING) pretty is nearby. *runs away sobbing*
PS - Marie makes these baby hand soaps! The perfect mix of adorable and a bit creepy.
